The Melfort Mustangs are happy to announce another commitment from our graduating class. 20-year-old forward Leighton Burns-Marion has committed to Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon, Wisconsin.
Forward, Burns-Marion, from Regina, Saskatchewan, joined the Mustangs this year for his final season of junior hockey. He played three games for Melfort before the season was cut short due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Previous to Melfort and the SJHL. Burns-Marion played for the Calgary Canucks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League for two seasons. In 95 career AJHL games he scored nine goals and six assists for 15 points.
“We acquired Leighton because of his size speed and skill. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see him perform much as a 20-year-old but he definitely has lots of positive aspects to his game.” Mustang Head Coach and GM Trevor Blevins said. “He’s going to a great program with Concordia and we wish him all the best with his academic and hockey career.”
Concordia University Wisconsin is a NCAA Division 3 hockey program that compete in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association(NCHA). Burns-Marion will join their program for the beginning of the 2021-22 season.
The Mustangs would like to thank Leighton for his time in Melfort and wish him all the best moving forward!
