Mustangs acquire Ward from Storm for PDF

The Melfort Mustangs acquired 2004-born defenceman Brett Ward from the Grand Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) in exchange for a Player Development Fee (PDF).

Ward, a 6’5” 170lbs blue liner, played in a total of 20 games for the Storm as a rookie in 2021/2022. He contributed one assist in those games along with 10 penalty minutes.

“Brett is a big, strong defender that uses his size well in battles, while his solid skating ability helps him move pucks out of his own zone,” said Mustangs Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Blevins. “Brett already has valuable Junior experience and we believe he will continue improve and thrive in our league.”

The Spruce Grove, Alta. product spent the 2020/2021 COVID-19 shortened season with the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers U18 AAA club, playing in four games, adding one assist.
